Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about drywall finishing, Level 5 work, repairs, texture matching, timelines and where we work.
+What does Mud Monsters do?
We are a drywall finishing company. That means we take hung drywall board the rest of the way: seam taping, mud work, sanding, corner bead, texture and final detail — everything between bare board and paint-ready walls. We handle finishing for new construction, remodels and additions, plus drywall repairs and texture matching in existing homes and commercial spaces.
+Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Estimates are free and there is no obligation. Call 912-658-3310 or send the form on our Free Estimate page. Photos of the space or the damage help us give you a sharper number faster.
+How much does drywall finishing cost?
Finishing is priced per job, not off a generic chart, because the real cost drivers are the size of the job (square footage of board), the finish level (Level 4 vs Level 5), ceiling height and detail work (arches, trays, lots of corners), the condition of what is already there, and texture work. A small repair and a whole new house are different animals. The honest way to get your number is a free estimate — we measure, we look at the details, and we quote the actual job.
+What is a Level 5 finish, and do I need one?
Drywall finishes run Level 0 to Level 5. Level 4 — taped, coated and sanded joints — is standard for most walls under flat or matte paint. Level 5 adds a skim coat over the entire surface, producing a uniform, mirror-smooth plane. You want Level 5 where strong light rakes across the wall (big windows, skylights), under gloss or dark paint, and in high-end rooms where the wall itself is on display. It costs more because it is more labor — and it is the finish we are known for.
+Can you match the texture on my existing walls?
Yes — texture matching is one of our specialties. Matching means identifying the texture type (orange peel, knockdown, smooth, popcorn-era patterns), its weight and its pattern, then reproducing it on the repair so the patch blends into the original wall instead of announcing itself.
+Do you repair small holes and cracks, or only big jobs?
Both. We repair everything from doorknob holes and moving dents to cracked seams, nail pops and water-damaged sections. Small repair or full house, the standard is the same: when we are done and it is painted, you should not be able to find the repair.
+My drywall got wet. Can you fix it?
Once the leak itself is repaired and the area is dry, yes. Water-damaged drywall usually needs the affected section cut out and replaced, then finished and textured to match. If drywall stayed wet long enough to go soft or grow mold, that section has to come out — patching over it does not work, and we will tell you straight if that is the situation.
+Do you hang drywall too, or only finish?
Our specialty and focus is finishing — taping, mudding, sanding and texture. If your project needs hanging as well, tell us when you request your estimate and we will be straight with you about the best way to get the whole job done.
+How long does finishing take?
It depends on size and finish level. Mud needs proper dry time between coats — rushing coats is how seams telegraph through paint later. A typical room repair runs days, not weeks; a whole house is scheduled in stages. Your estimate includes a realistic timeline for your specific job, and we would rather give you an honest date than a fast one we cannot keep.
+Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Mud Monsters Contractors is licensed and insured for residential and commercial work. Builders and GCs: documentation is available for your project files on request.
+What areas do you serve?
Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, Rincon, Garden City, Port Wentworth, Bloomingdale, Guyton, Tybee Island and Wilmington Island, GA. Outside that ring? Ask — for the right project we travel.
